The Legion Fourth of July Tournament began Thursday at the David Allen Memorial Ballpark.  The Area AAA team beat the Enid AAA team 11-7 Thursday afternoon.  The Enid Split Squad beat Ponderosa, Colorado 3-2.  Woodward run-ruled Manhattan, Kansas 13-2 in the third game of the day and Boulder, Colorado beat the Majors 9-8.  Coach Mayberry talked about the loss and the activities tonight.  Action continues today with the Enid AAA team playing Ponderosa at 1 p.m., the Area AAA team plays the Enid Split Squad at 3:15 p.m., Manhattan plays Boulder at 5:30 p.m. and the Majors play Woodward at 7:45 p.m.  Dinner at the Ballpark tonight.  Fireworks will follow the Majors’ game.

OSU signee Karron Johnson, one of the Cowboy’s better recruits, will be playing at Moberly Area Community College this year working toward gaining eligibility.

OU’s Danielle Robinson helped team USA rout France 115-30.  Robinson played 20 minutes and had three points, three rebounds, three assists and four steals.

The Oklahoma City Blazers announced they have closed operations effective July 1.  The Blazers were in Oklahoma City for 17 seasons playing in the Central Hockey League.  Oklahoma City may attempt to get an American Hockey League franchise next season.

The Texas Rangers took two of three games from division-leading Los Angeles Angels and are just a game back of the Angels in the American League West.  The Rangers were off the Thursday and host a series with Tampa Bay beginning tonight.

The Major League All-Star Game is scheduled for July 14th in St. Louis.  All-Star rosters will have 33 players this year including one additional pitcher.  The additional spot will be the manager’s choice.

Thursday was the one-year anniversary of the settlement that brought the Seattle SuperSonics to Oklahoma City.  Wow, what a year!  It was a difficult task to relocate a professional franchise 2000 miles in four months and get ready for the upcoming season.  It took 61 truckloads carrying 786,000 pounds of freight to make that move.  Congratulations Clay Bennett and the Thunder staff and congratulations Oklahoma City!

Enid’s Shanel Scott was in Enid for a few days getting a break from the Rockford Thunder schedule in the National Fastpitch Pro-League.  We’ll have interviews with Scott next Monday and Tuesday.

The Oklahoma City RedHawks lost to Iowa 2-1 Thursday and drop to 39-40 on the season. 

…And, seventy years ago tomorrow, July 4th, 1939, was Lou Gehrig Appreciation Day at Yankee Stadium.  The Yankee first basemen was a career .340 hitter and hit 493 home runs and played in 2,130 consecutive games.  Listen to this truly great sports moment…
